I submitted this paper as a discussion during the Open-Source trade show, the Midwest RepRap festival.
The basis is that a 3d scanner can be used in conjunction with a printer for at least 3 new capabilities. The initial configuration of this scanner would be a point laser in the x-carriage or effector and a camera (at an oblique view).
- Continuing from a failed 3d print job
- bed calibration
- printing on non-planar objects
The paper entails how to do this technique, the mathematical basis and formulas, and ideas to start implementing this in new and existing 3d printers.
